FiftyThree, creator of the Paper iPad ap, marks a milestone for themselves and and their community of visual creators around the world: Mix, the collaborative component of Paper, has surpassed one million accounts just 157 days after launch. Mix offers a lightweight and radically open way to connect the global community of Paper users, and give them starting places to collaborate and create.

Few productivity services have grown to reach such a global scale so quickly. To date, people have collaborated across 210 countries and territories worldwide, with major concentrations in Asia and Europe. The visual nature of Paper allows people to easily surmount the barriers of language and communicate their ideas.

By browsing across six different curated content categories — Learn, Sketch, Play, Write, Design, and Think — creators can find inspiration relevant to a wide range of disciplines. Paper users have shared hundreds of thousands of templates, ranging from useful design and business tools, to creative play.

The flexibility of Mix has enabled it to power language lessons, crowdsource a marriage proposal, and support the fight against AIDS with Project RED and Apple, which drew more than 4,500 remixes. Because everything shared to Mix becomes Creative Commons public domain, Mix is now one of the largest stores of open source creativity on the web.

Paper proves that the impulse to create is universal, and that sharing ideas visually can create powerful connections that stretch across cultures and continents. Mix’s success—alongside Paper’s 13 million+ downloads, and Pencil’s topselling international position—makes FiftyThree one of the few companies to have successfully launched both hardware, software, and services.

To commemorate exceeding one million creators on Mix, FiftyThree created a visualization to celebrate the many ways people around the world are collaborating using Paper.
