The weekend of September 13 and 14 will see ten Maker Faires happening across the United States, with more coming in other cities in following weekends.
The first Maker Faire started in 2006 in San Mateo, California, organized by the editors of MAKE magazine. The event has expanded to a global presence, where tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and entrepreneurs all come together to show their projects and to talk about what they have learned. The “Faire” atmosphere is mantained to provide fun and engagement, for both participants and visitors.
Their vision statement clearly aims at interactivity, yet isn’t limited to technology, saying:
Maker Faire is deliberately diverse in content, and embraces not just the novel in technical fields, but innovation and experimentation across the spectrum of science, engineering, art, performance and craft.
