Popular video sharing site Vimeo has decided to follow YouTube’s lead and launch full support for 1080p video.  However, there is one important distinction from Youtube’s implementation: You have to pay for it, on both upload & view.

In order to both see and upload 1080p clips, users will have to be members of Vimeo’s paid Plus service, which costs $10 a month, or $60 a year. Regular users will simply see a lower-resolution version of those videos.

I have to admit, I’m not so sure how successful it will be if I’m required to pay $60 a year to watch 1080p.  Hopefully, they’ll change their mind or CNET was confused.

Update: I just got clarification from staff at Vimeo, anyone will be able to watch 1080p.  You only have to subscribe to their Plus service to upload 1080p.
