Samsung's Foldable displayAlong with the spectacular displays of curved screens, UltraHD, 3D Tablets that don’t require glasses all on public view at Internation CES last week, ET News from Korea reports that Samsung Display showcased the world’s first foldable display. Their report says that “According to the industry on the 12th, Samsung Display showcased a foldable display targeting VIPs at the Encore Hotel in Las Vegas, U.S. during the CES 2014.

The showcased display is applied with an active-matrix (AM) organic light emitting diode (OLED) created using a plastic substrate measuring 5.68” in size. Made with a film-like polyimide (PI) substrate, this display is thin and folds like paper.

What is noteworthy is that Samsung Display has even applied a touch screen panel (TSP) to this display. Samsung Display, according to sources, has applied TSP, which is made using a single layer metal mesh material.”

Last Januarly, Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Gwon O-hyeon announced a foldable display launch to take place next year. “We will release a foldable display around 2015,” said Vice Chairman Gwon. “We still have a few technical issues to be solved.”

It looks like Samsung is on track, despite competition with curved displays hitting the marketplace from other commercial giants such as LG right on their heels.
