In a move to widen the reach of HTC Vive’s Subscription-supported Viveport, the company has announced that titles that are also able to run on the Oculus Rift will have a notification listing in the Viveport.

Developers are able to make the specification “Oculus Rift compatable” today, and consumers will see it go live on September 4, 2018. On the Blog for Developers they state:

Developers can start opting in on Viveport to support Oculus Rift today. In many cases, existing builds that have hardware support for Oculus Rift via OpenVR are ready for this update. In the Developer Console, Oculus Rift is now available under ‘Compatible headsets’ in the ‘Viveport Listing’ tab. To opt-in a title, simply check the Oculus Rift box and create a production release under the Submit tab.

This doesn’t specifically include titles for the Oculus Go, which is a 3 DOF, fully contained wireless Head Mounted Display (HMD) unit, and is based on Samsung technology. Those titles will still be uploaded onto Oculus’ own app store platform.

The Viveport, as different from Steam’s storefront, offers a subscription model as well: A Viveport Subscription allows subscribers to experience up to five titles at a time, starting with a free 14-day trial, and continuing after that with one low monthly price. Much like a lending library, titles can be used for a month at at time freely under the subscription and with no time limit from month to month. However, this is limited to only five titles at one time. Other titles can be purchased for unlimited use.

The monthly subscription pricing may vary from country to country, and there is no posting indicating which titles are available in some countries as opposed to others. However, the subscription benefit is the ability to try some of the more expensive offerings without making a permanent commitment to purchase, or if you are interested in casual gaming and like to move from title to title.
