At the Adobe Max conference last month, Adobe went a step further than just offering the VR editing update in Premiere Pro, with a sneak peak at a new product coming called CloverVR.

CloverVR brings the video editing suite directly into the VR environment, making it possible to view and edit simultaneously. The demo was done using an Oculus Rift, we’d be interested to know if it will be available for other VR platforms.

Probably the most important new tool built into the editor is the ROTATIONAL ALIGNMENT TOOL, which is demonstrated about 3 minutes into the video. Specifically, it allows the editor to rotate the video to allow a key visual element to be placed in front of the viewer, rather than being locked into the video’s “front-center” view being defined as the video was shot. As in traditional visual editing, placing characters or focusing the action in specific position “within the frame” is key to driving the narrative structure of a story, and it is no different in a 360 video environment, even if the viewer is invited or feels like following a storyline out of the primary line of sight.

Here’s the video of the preview, we’re looking forward to seeing a firm release date, and to see if it will be part of the Adobe Creative Cloud offerings:
