A recent internet find, here’s a timeline of the History of 3D printing, starting in 1983, with Charles Hull’s invention of the solid imaging process known as stereolithography (3D Printing)  and the STL file format.

The most recent entries includes the opening of Amazon’s 3D printing store in July 2014, and the creation of a 3D mockup of an comet, based on photos taken by European Space Agency’s Rosetta spacecraft on its mission to rendezvous with Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in August.

Not surprisingly, 3D systems and Stratasys dominates the timeline, with mentions of MakerBot and others.

Will Moore’s Law apply, and the astonishing growth in 3D printing across business and consumer goods, medicine and manufacturing mean more rapid innovation in the field? Comments and insights are welcomed here!
