Doxie Flip - in the box

The Doxie Flip – unboxed

It is smart, compact, simple to use, well designed and lightweight. The crafty functionality manifests itself through a feature set making it seem that every imaginable user concern and desire has been taken into consideration.

No document or item is too big for the Doxie Flip.  Despite the 4×6” glass scanning surface, Doxie’s downloadable software (Mac & PC, iPad) has features to stitch together multiple scans.  An 8.5 x11 sheet is easily stitched together. Take four or five scans to get the entirety, and the stitching software analyzes them and recreates the original document into one image. The color rendition is accurate; fine detail is captured.

The removable lid snaps on and off with great ease. The bottom of the Flip is also glass, making it easy flip it over (FLIP!), place it on the original and watch it being scanned. It works both right side up and upside down.

The manual is pocket sized, with clear how-to instructions and graphics. The Doxie online documentation and software is self-explanatory. The software allows for importing and saving in multiple formats.

Designed for portability, the lightweight (1.26 lbs) unit is cordless, running on AA batteries.  No worries about leaving it on and draining the power: it comes with an automatic sleep timer.  Preset to two minutes, the user may modify if desired.

A 4GB SD card comes with the Flip, plus a USB SD card reader, for those who lacking a card slot on their laptop or PC. There is a small screen on which to see the scan. It also displays battery strength, number of scans remaining (based on space left on the SD card), with navigation buttons enabling the user to set the resolution to 300 or 600 dpi, and the date and time.

Doxie software offers free cloud storage.  No feature seems to have been omitted. It won’t replace professional high-end, high DPI scanners.  As a portable, personal color scanner, it meets every need and outperforms many standard models.
