Infographic - AdTruth-browser identifiers

Designed by Inkhouse for AdTruth.

This infographic by AdTruth (designed by InkHouse) shows a greenhouse displaying the variety of behind-the-scene markers used in web browsers and mobile devices that can be treated as identifiers for marketers and advertisers to monitor and track users as they stroll through web sites or use mobile apps.

Though the infographic gives only a basic compilation of what can be used where, with no other information (i.e. degrees of accuracy, speed of tracking, persistance of the marker, nor is there any data about actualy usage of these markers), it’s clever enough as visual metaphors to draw a reader in. I can understand why putting a “Poison” sign around the spiked plant for #5 Fingerprinting is done, as it is listed underneath as not being privacy compliant, but I don’t understand why the Lily of cookies is wilting in the display below under mobile devices. I will assume it doesn’t do so well, if you carry the metaphors of thriving versus wilting plants through.

The introductory text on the infographic reads as follows:

April showers bring May flowers, but when it comes to recognizing and reaching customers in the digital world it’s a jungle out there!
