Katalabs has just released a multi-user 3-D virtual environment using WebGL. This is a technology that could be used to make Second Life type worlds ubiquitous across all platforms: Mac, PC, Linux, and smartphone since there is no need to install specific software. Instead all you need is a browser that supports the WebGL standard. One such browser today is Firefox 4 beta 7, which is my browser of choice. Let’s hope that other browsers also incorporate the WebGL technology.
We are very excited to announce the release of KataSpace; a WebGL/HTML5 frontend to Sirikata based a multiuser 3D environment. This application allows you to build things like a MMO or Second Life style virtual world and deploy it on any web page where it can can be visited by anyone running a modern web browser (including the one on your smartphone or iPad).
