Dreamworks Animation has published a pair of trailers for their newest CG Animated feature film, “How to Train Your Dragon”.
The adventure comedy is set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, based on the book by Cressida Cowell. The story centers around a Viking teenager, who lives on the island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life. Initiation is coming, and this is his one chance to prove his worthiness to his tribe and father. But when he encounters, and ultimately befriends, an injured dragon, his world is turned upside down.

I am so disappointed. I read all the Hiccup books and this is NOTHING like the book other than the dragon’s name and Hiccup’s name. I am a middle school reading specialist and I was hoping to promote the book through the movie…but darn the movie isn’t even within a stones throw of the books…very very sad……It would have made an excellent movie as written in the BOOK….change the name!!!!!!!It is misrepresentation!
Got to admit I’ll go see it, just figure if you go to the bother of buying the rights to a book you should stay true to both the story and vibe. I agree though it does look awsome as a piece of animation. Mind you what do I know I’m a librarian!

Actually in the beginning they tried adapting the film to be true to the books, but found it didn’t have the feel they wanted, so they revamped the storyline. All it really means is that you get a ‘what if’ instead, it still looks awesome though.
Once more Hollywood get’s it all wrong, in the books Vikings hunt with Dragons they don’t hunt dragons. Hiccup’s USP on Berk is that he talks Dragonese and Toothless is cheeky, rude and downright lazy until he is required to save the day. I suspect that the poo jokes will have been sanitised too. No sign of Big Boobied Bertha on IMDB either. Read the books to your kids at first and then read them for yourself it’ll be a far better experience.
