For no other reason than the Hacker’s creedo “Because I could”, one enterprising hardware hacker has crammed 23 GeForce 295GTX’s into a single massive Multi-SLI rig.
The video on YouTube shows some highlights of the hardware, and then ends showing the resulting Crysis framerates. Video after the break.
Update: I’m attempting to reach the owner to get some more information on this rig. It looks like the description is a bit incorrect, and it’s actually a cluster of systems,e ach containing ~4 GTS295’s. It’s possible he’s using something like Chromium to distribute the load across the multiple systems, but I really don’t know as it’s pretty lacking in details. If I can find more information, I’ll post it.
Update Again: It’s a hoax. From the EVGA forums, this is actually a Folding@Home cluster with GPGPU Accelleration enabled, so the 4 video cards are used as folding accelerators. The real system belongs to “Atlas Folder“, who’s mind-blowing F@H stats you can see here.
Final Update: At Atlas Folding’s request, (and because it’s just the right thing to do), I’ve also included the real Atlas Folding system video after the break.
Atlas Folding’s Video of their monster rig:
And the hoaxer’s copy:
YouTube – 23 X GeForce 295 GTX – Ultimate gaming hardware.
UPDATE: The perpetrator’s youtube account has been shut down. The good guys have won this round 🙂
engadget should be ashamed. Thanks Viz for the correction.
