Great point David, its funny how the guys behind MyCityDeal had that exact business model in mind. Acquire a stable customer base, then sell off to groupon. All they do is copy emerging companies from the US, replicate the exact model in the UK and Germany (Facebook equivalent) then sell off. Something has to be said about dominating a niche & geographical location ! 🙂
Interesting to see the growth. There are a number of similar daily-deal businesses operating in Australia & New Zealand. One of these, which had only been running for about 6 months, sold for many million $$$.
