Under Foundation GEOINT Content Management (FGCM) contracts, Harris will create high-quality data and products of the Pacific, North America, South America, and Africa regions of the world for use by the U.S. intelligence community and military. FGCM will contribute to and maintain a comprehensive, geospatially accurate map of the world that can be accessed quickly as intelligence, operational, and crisis needs arise.

Harris will utilize its One Feature One Time database, which automatically eliminates data redundancy and stores the most current representation of each geospatial feature. This capability ensures data currency and significantly reduces the time required for processing and delivery of products compared with traditional methods.

“Our unique solution provides improved accuracy, reduced production costs and significantly faster turn-around of geospatial products and content,” said Bill Gattle, vice president and general manager, National Programs, Harris Government Communications Systems. “This major win continues our legacy of providing high quality, responsive geospatial products to the intelligence and military communities.”

About the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency

The mission of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency states that the “NGA provides timely, relevant, and accurate geospatial intelligence in support of national security.”

Originally organized in 1996 by combining America’s most advanced imagery and geospatial assets within the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) the US created what was considered a critical mass of skills and technologies under a single mission umbrella. With the creation of NGA in 2003, this area of intelligence widened its scope and capabilities, allowing the organization to integrate multiple sources of information, intelligence and tradecrafts to produce an innovative and sophisticated new discipline that then NGA director James Clapper formally christened as geospatial intelligence, or GEOINT.

The NGA is currently under the command of Mr. Robert Cardillo, the sixth Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). Mr. Cardillo leads and directs NGA under the authorities of the Secretary of Defense and Director of National Intelligence. He became NGA’s director on Oct. 3, 2014.

For more information about the NGA, you can download a PDF produced in 2011 here, titled, “The Advent of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.”
