Conclusion

The CausticOne is a fantastic product with huge potential.  The card already runs real-time interactive ray-tracing with startling clarity and beauty.  Once they switch to a custom ASIC in the CausticTwo card, the performance will be even more mind-blowing.  They will have so much raw power at their disposal, I wouldn’t be surprised to see full-screen rendering with full radiosity effects.  When the CausticTwo is released, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some people using the real-time raytraced output as their final product.

They say that the new card will be available next year, so we won’t have to wait long.  As users begin to see the amazing capabilities that real-time ray tracing offers, such as real-time feedback on lighting and reflections, vendors will begin to respond by supporting the Caustic cards in their products.  It will be an exciting time as the visuals reach new heights, and turnaround drops from hours to milliseconds.
