TrustedReviews has reviews of the Quick Looks & Datamator plugins for Adobe AfterEffects.
Quick Looks:
Digital video can be quite neutral in appearance, especially compared to the huge range of character available from different types of film. Fortunately, you can give your video a little more personality at the editing stage, and this is what Magic Bullet Quick Looks is intended to provide. It promises 100 different effects to make your video appear as if it came from all manner of sources, from old film stock to popular TV styles.
DataMator:
Enter Red Giant’s Datamator, bringing specialised tools for chart creation and animation to video. However, unlike Magic Bullet Quick Looks, which plugs into a wide variety of editing apps, Datamator is intended for just one: Adobe After Effects. It’s also compatible with versions 6.5, 7, CS3 and CS4, and it will work on Windows or Mac.
Quick Looks gets points for the effects, but gets dinged for it’s lack of options. Most of the effects are canned with the only adjustable option being the “Strength” of the Effect. Datamator, however, gets rave reviews at being a huge bargain for anyone wanted to make nice video of animated graphs for presentations.
