cgchannel.com has an interview with Neville Page, creator of the Cloverfield Monster.

Neville Page was educated at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena California. Although his major was product design, he has always gravitated towards entertainment. With the combination of his education and personal interest, Neville has found himself involved with quite a variety of projects from creature design and sculpture to conceptual design and engineering. His clients have included Universal Studios, Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, Mattel, and BMW to name just a few.

In addition to Cloverfield, she’s worked with on the upcoming CG-heavy film Avatar.  The interview talks alot about why the monster was designed the way it was, and how the design played off the horror-nature of the film.
